Issue 49 - Oct/Nov 2015

Spring is in the air - well, not really in the high country for a month or so yet, and the spring equinoctial weather can be very disturbed and wintery at times!

There are still a few deer species with antlers on for those after a trophy (see page 14), and of course it is a great time to get yourself a trophy of one of the alpine species – tahr and chamois. The bulls are coming progressively lower in altitude and more accessible, and will often be in male only groups making trophy evaluation easier. Chamois bucks are usually loners though (except for Jono and Jacques’ bucks, page 26!), so keep looking for that big animal on its own and you might strike that 10 inch buck you’ve been looking for. In general all our animals will slowly be putting condition back on after the winter so their eating quality will keep improving on the run down to Christmas.
